After last week's report of police brutality in Košice that led to the killing of a detained man, another killing was reported on Saturday after a police intervention in the Žilina region.
According to Žilina regional police spokeswoman Daniela Kocková police received a notification that a person with an ax in his hand was supposed to be moving around the street, threatening the surroundings, so they sent a patrol to the scene. The police first used an electric weapon, which was not effective in stopping the person, then they used holds and handcuffs.
The person, according to the patrol, appeared disoriented, for which reason they called an ambulance. In the meantime, the person had fallen unconscious, so they started resuscitating him. The paramedics also continued resuscitating, but despite their efforts the 47-year-old man died on the spot following a cardiac arrest.
The Office of Inspection Services has already opened a criminal investigation for manslaughter.
