Axon Public Safety Germany SE provided the Interior Ministry with body cameras for police officers involved in the pilot project free of charge, ministry's spokesperson Matej Neumann told TASR on Tuesday.
"The intention of the pilot operation is to test the functions of the cameras and the way of their use - for example, their manual, remote or automatic launching, mounting, positioning, etc. The experience from the pilot testing will then be used in a nationwide project," said Neumann, adding that the ministry received 16 Axon Body 4 cameras along with accessories.
According to the spokesperson, the next phase of the project will be launched after the pilot phase is completed and evaluated. The ministry expects to launch the procurement for the cameras next year.
Police Corps President Lubomir Solak reported on Monday (November 18) that the pilot project is set to be launched on December 1. The measure was introduced after a Kosice police officer beat a detainee to death in early November.
