President Peter Pellegrini will be received by Pope Francis for a personal audience at the Vatican on Monday, December 9. Pellegrini was also received by the Holy Father at a personal audience in 2019, when the incumbent president was premier. As he said, he would always remember the Pope’s words that a nation is like a tree, where the older people with their traditions and experience form the roots, the middle generation the trunk with its life-giving sap, and the youngest people the blossom and fruit. Pellegrini believes that this Advent meeting will also bring Slovakia "a message full of hope and spiritual strength."
