The Slovak Republic succeeded in negotiations to extend the exemption for the export of fuels and petroleum products made from oil originating from the Russian Federation to the Czech Republic, which was the subject of talks in Brussels. The exemption was approved for a period of six months. The final approval of the exemption is expected at the Council of Ministers in Brussels, the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic reported.
"Negotiating the exemption for the export of products from Russian oil to the Czech Republic is an important success not only from the perspective of our domestic market but also for stable prices in the region. Therefore, I am glad that we managed to extend the exemption," said Economy Minister Denisa Saková (Hlas-SD).
Sanctions on the import of Russian oil were imposed in 2022 as part of the sixth EU sanctions package against the Russian Federation, which had a direct impact on the fuel market and its production in Slovakia. After the exemption expired on December 5, 2024, Russian oil transported through the Druzhba pipeline could only be used for the production of fuels for the domestic market and for export to Ukraine.
