Doctors’ Union asks for meeting with President

The Medical Trade Union Association (LOZ) has asked President Peter Pellegrini for a personal meeting at which it wants to explain to him its concerns about the draft law on the availability of health care and urge him not to sign the bill. Union head Peter Visolajsky told TASR on Thursday. He added that they also want to suggest alternative approaches that they believe could contribute towards improving the situation in the Slovak health-care sector.

Parliament passed legislation to add the concept of a 'critical health-care shortage' to the list of extraordinary situations on Wednesday (December 11). The bill was drafted in response to mass resignation notices submitted by protesting doctors. Under the new rules, if a 'critical health-care shortage' is declared, health-care personnel refusing to provide health care could be held criminally liable.
