Germany will close a repair facility for military equipment for Ukraine in the Slovak town of Michalovce after a long negotiation. It wants to move the repair hub to its territory by 31 December, the defence ministry in Berlin announced on Wednesday, the DPA news agency reports.
Through its spokesman, the German defence ministry clarified that the reason for such a move is a change in the framework conditions and, in part, the "extremely complex" repair procedures that must be carried out on damaged Ukrainian military equipment.
Other German-operated repair centres are also located in Lithuania and Ukraine. "Repairs of Ukrainian weapon systems remain secure," the German defence ministry said.
