The declaration on Slovakia’s foreign policy, signed four months ago by the three highest constitutional representatives of the Slovak Republic, currently provides sufficient scope for daily political work, stated Slovak President Peter Pellegrini.
The joint declaration on a unified approach to foreign policy was signed on 1 September 2024 by the President, the Prime Minister, and the Vice-Chairman of the House, Peter Žiga (Hlas-SD). In the memorandum, they affirmed Slovakia’s steadfast alignment with the EU and NATO.
The Prime Minister announced on Tuesday (7 January) his intention to propose that the highest constitutional officials and the chairmen of coalition parties issue a statement on Slovakia’s foreign policy orientation. According to him, this initiative responds to the rise of views diverging from those supported by Brussels and the denial of fundamental democratic principles. Fico added that the statement should also outline the principles guiding Slovakia’s foreign affairs.
