The Slovak Health Ministry has chosen the fight against microbes' resistance to drugs as one of its priorities during the ongoing presidency of the Council of the European Union. According to the European Centre for Disease Control Slovakia is one of the EU countries with the highest rates of infection with the multi-drug resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae which is a common cause of urinary tract, respiratory tract and bloodstream infections and Escherichia coli -one of the most frequent causes of bloodstream infections. Anca Dragu has asked Adela Maghear a member of the European Health Parliament's Antimicrobial Resistance Committee what can be done to deal with microbes' increased resistance to drugs.
