Why does gold have its yellowish colour? More importantly, why have theory and practice models on gold regularly achieved differing results? For decades no one had a precise answer. It was just a fundamental mystery of gold, something which researchers begrudgingly accepted, until now. Slovak theoretical chemist, Doctor Lukáš Félix Pašteka, working at Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand, has finally cracked the code. Gavin Shoebridge asked him what this means for the future.
