The L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards program was created in 1998, but only now has it reached Slovakia. In September of 2017, the first Slovak edition saw two researchers awarded for their efforts in pushing scientific boundaries: Doctor Lucia Kučerová and Zuzana Barbieriková. Gavin Shoebridge asked these two accomplished researchers what the award means to them, why there are still so few female researchers globally, and what can be done to encourage more women to choose technical scientific fields.
