As reported by the Slovak Union of Beekeepers, 75% of all crops and 90% of all plants depend on pollinators. Nevertheless, in spite of the importance of these small creatures, their numbers have been decreasing in Slovakia for a long time already. Since 2018, the importance of pollinators has been celebrated annually on the 20th of May and this year has not been an exception.

According the Slovak Union of Beekeepers chairperson Milan Rusnák, everyone can help improve the situation with pollinators, for example by planting mixtures of flowering nectar-bearing plants so that the production of nectar and pollen is balanced throughout the whole season. As far as cities and municipalities are concerned, they can help by creating flowering public or community gardens, green roofs, city parks and urban meadows.
