What’s the buzz around Bratislava?

This year, everything started at the end of June when the Morava River overflowed its banks and flooded the river's floodplain. Two weeks later, Slovak media began to be flooded too, but with headlines about massive mosquito overpopulations resulting in a mosquito calamity. It's worth asking, however, whether the current situation with mosquitos in Bratislava and its surroundings is really so bad and unprecedented? Was it possible to prevent it?
