I have to win children's trust

The bone marrow is the spongy tissue inside some bones, such as the spine, hip and thigh bones. It contains stem cells which can develop into red blood cells that carry oxygen around the body, white blood cells which are a crucial part of the immune system, and the platelets that are cells that help stop bleeding and heal wounds. Healthy bone marrow given by a donor can help treat patients suffering from leukemia, some blood disorders or diseases of the immune system.

In the former Czechoslovakia, the only bone marrow transplantation centre for children was in Prague. Slovak children in need of such a procedure had to go either to Prague or to another European city where it was available. This changed in the mid-90s, when a group of Slovak doctors decided to create a bone marrow transplantation unit at the Department of hematology and oncology at what was then the Children's Hospital in Bratislava. Doctor Júlia Horaková was in the medical team who did the first such transplatation in Slovakia in November 1995.
