By providing values like water quality improvement, flood protection and shoreline erosion control, wetlands are important features in the landscape and home to an immense variety of species. Nevertheless, in Slovakia wetlands are amongst the most endangered ecosystems due to massive drainage over the past century. Romana Grajcarová reports on the activities aiming to restore and protect Slovak wetlands of international importance.
