As Nobel physics laureate Kip Thorne visits Slovakia, Slovak scientists recall how science competitions shaped their careers

Why would a world-renowned physicist and Nobel laureate choose to give his time to helping with a relatively unknown science award in a small country like Slovakia? Jonathan asks Professor Kip Thorne, in Bratislava in October to chair the 2021 Eset Science Award, just this question. On the occasion of his visit, we talk with several Slovak scientists who credit their participation in science competitions, during their secondary school years, with helping to shape their scientific ability and their career.
