According to the TASR press agency, the city of Prešov is threatened by an ecological collapse. The problem is related to a brine leak. The salt concentrate underground is a remnant of a dysfunctional salt production plant. Some damaged caps on boreholes are leaking to the surface under high pressure. The situation is worsening rapidly. The rock salt deposit Prešov - Soľná Baňa was known in the distant past. Salt springs have been used in this area since the 9th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a gradual shift from underground leaching to the leaching of salt by drilling from the surface. No drilling activities have been carried out in the Prešov district of Solivary since 2010. Nearly a hundred unsecured boreholes have been left behind.
