On 22 April, around one billion people in more than 190 countries will be taking part in activities to raise awareness of the climate crisis and to encourage behavioural change to protect nature. Also the Central Slovak Museum in Banská Bystrica plans to participate in Earth Day through activities that draw attention to the environment and are related to the protection of nature.
This year the museum prepared an interesting feature - a 3.5-metre diameter ecometer which will measure each visitor's individual ecological footprint. The garden in front of the Tihányi manor house will also host several interesting activities. People will learn how to recycle waste, each visitor will be able to plant their own plant and individual environmental problems will be explained through in a playful yet educative way.
Another outreach programme will focus on the River Hron. The current pollution of the river banks is quite worrying. That is why the Central Slovak Museum will dedicate the Earth Day also to cleaning up the river, inviting the public to join wherever possible.
Perhaps even in your local area. Earth Day celebrations have a different theme every year. In 2023, the theme is "Lets invest in our planet". Well, investing a few hours over the weekend is the least one can do.
