Dementia- the calm before the storm

Despite the fact that demographers say Slovakia's population is ageing fast, available data show a relatively low prevalence of dementia in this country, 5.5 percent of Slovaks older than 60. Its most common form, Alzheimer's disease - representing between 60 and 80% of cases - is considered a serious health issue whose direct costs are greater than the direct costs related to depression and other mental disorders in many European countries. So is Slovakia's current low prevalence just the calm before the storm and how prepared are Slovaks for this storm? Anca Dragu reports.
