The ride-sharing service called Uber has arrived to Slovakia, offering competition to the long-established taxi market in the capital city of Bratislava. With the Uber mobile phone application installed, users can book a ride with private motorists who also have the app. Users of the service claim its faster and cheaper than using taxi, but this remains to be seen, according to taxi companies.
The service is controversial, causing an uproar from taxi operators in cities around the world. In Slovakia however, we were told that taxis have nothing to worry about. To get both sides of the story, Gavin Shoebridge spoke to both the head of Uber Slovakia Lokman Kuris and spokesperson for VB Taxis Marián Polakovič.
