The practice of decorating eggshells is quite ancient, with decorated, engraved ostrich eggs found in Africa, which are 60,000 years old. The dyeing of Easter eggs in colours is commonplace in different cultures, too, with the colour being achieved by boiling the egg in natural substances such as, onion peel, woodbark or beetroot juice or using artificial colourings.
