Green Thursday ahead of Good Friday starts the Easter festivities in Slovakia. On this very day, we pay special attention to the colour green especially in our diet. However, in the minutes to come, you will hear several green colour related folk songs. All of them are sung in the northern Slovak region of Kysuce at weddings. Wedding ceremonies start to be held in the period after Easter Sunday, i.e. after the 40 days of fasting. All of the songs to be played have the same lyrics of a tune that used to be sung shortly before the bride left her parents’ house.
