Tips for trips around Slovakia

Tips for trips around Slovakia
Our first invitation is the opening of the summer tourist season in Slovakia's oldest national park, the High Tatras. On the weekend of 17th and 18th June you can experience a festive ride on the historic tram from 1913 – Kométa or Comet. Thanks to conductors and guides in period costumes, you will experience your journey as it was in the days when the historic trams achieved their greatest fame on the High Tatras lines. At the same time, this year will be an exceptional celebration. The Kométa tram is celebrating its 110th anniversary. It will run all summer on the Poprad - Starý Smokovec - Tatranská Lomnica line. For more information please visit the website - tatranskaelektricka.sk.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to run like you're in the clouds? On Friday 16 June, you can try it in the centre of Bratislava, right on the roof of the Slovak Radio building. In our upside-down pyramid. The aim of the international event Sky Run - Running in the Clouds, organised in cooperation with RTVS, is to promote running and introduce its extreme form, also known as ultra-running. It is the first endurance running event 12 to 24 hours above the ground. Participants in the 12 and 24-hour endurance races run around the perimeter of the roof of the Slovak Radio building on Mýtna Street at a height of approximately 40 metres above the ground. Since its world premiere in 2010, the event has tried to continue a tradition that attracts enthusiasts from all over Slovakia and abroad. The winner is the runner with the highest number of kilometres or laps. Participants can still register at www.skyrun.sk.

The portrait of the last noble owner of Bojnice Castle - Count Jan František Pálffy - has returned to Bojnice after more than a century. The painting by Karl von Piloty was once part of the Pálffy portrait gallery and was kept in the castle's picture gallery. The work was discovered last year on the offer of a gallery in Canada. The Slovak National Museum (SNM) - Bojnice Museum unveiled it on Friday 2 June to mark the 115th anniversary of the count's death. The museum paid US$15,000 for the painting. The work is still being examined and its authenticity will be determined by a forensic expert. But visitors will be able to see it on a guided tour. And we'll give you one more reason to visit this place. On Wednesday 14 June, you can escape into a world of fairy tales. As part of the 25th edition of the Rozprávkový zámok or Fairy tale castle event you can experience these three classic fairy tales live in the chateau area: The Frog Prince, The Proud Princess or The King of Time. The Fairytale Castle 2023 event will run from 14 June to 18 June and from 21 June to 25 June.
