The day of St Stephen or Stefan marks the end of the pre-Christmas fasting period in our country. After the quiet joy of the day on which Christians believe Jesus Christ was born, the next day, 26 December, is full of music, festivities and parties. Young Slovaks enjoy the nightlife on 26 December, when many pubs, restaurants and clubs host what are known as Stefanske zabavy, or Stephen's parties.
