The General Prosecutor Office was watching and evaluating sexual crimes against children during the period of coronavirus pandemic restrictions. As its spokesperson Andrea Predajnova informed on Monday, the data showed a 145% increase in the number of child abuse cases.
"What is notable is the 170% increase in the number of criminal prosecutions against spreading child pornography and the 50% increase in sexual abuse especially via grooming," informed Predajnova.
General Prosecutor Jaromir Ciznar pointed out that it is inevitable to show zero tolerance for making children into victims of sexual exploitation and producing child pornography. The new phenomena due to IT development are sexting, grooming and sexual solicitation.
Slovak prosecutors started to specialize in child abuse cases in 2013 at all levels of the General Prosecutor's Office in order to protect children as the most vulnerable part of society. As the Office points out they are easier manipulated and are not aware of the consequences of their actions.
