Most Slovaks would not financially support churches

3 of 4 Slovaks would not financially support churches, indicates a poll by the Focus agency conducted for TV Markíza. When asked if they would support churches on a regular basis, 20.2% answered "definitely yes" or "probably yes", while 76.9% said "definitely no" or "probably no".

51.9% of those who claim that they visit the church several times a week say that they would certainly or probably contribute to churches out of their own pocket. Alternative answers - probably no and certainly not - were marked by 46.5% of respondents.

Only 9.4% of those who say that they go to church less than once a month gave an affirmative answer. Voters of the Christian Democratic Movement came out as most willing to contribute (61%). On the contrary, voters of We Are Family declared the lowest interest in financially supporting churches (10.3%).

The Poll was conducted among 1,022 respondents in September

In August 2020, a public opinion poll organized for NITA by Nielsen Admosphere conducted on 514 respondents indicated that 51.8% of Slovaks are in favour of the separation of churches from the state. According to it, 20.3% of respondents cannot imagine this alternative. 27.9% of respondents are not interested in the topic, or cannot comment on it.
