On 19 September, a monument to the pilots of the US army has been refurbished and ceremonially unveiled in close vicinity to the western Slovak village of Zohor. The monument marks the spot where two American pilots died during World War II. On 17 October 1944, a B-24 bomber was shot down after returning from a bombing mission in the nearby Austrian capital of Vienna. Fans of military history can find also other noteworthy sights in the Western Slovak region Záhorie.
