Primary forest, old-growth forest, primeval forest or even virgin forest: all these terms refer to one thing - a forest that has attained great age without significant disturbance and exhibits unique ecological features. Although Brazil, Canada and Russia host more than half of the world's primary forests, while only 3% of all primary forests are situated in Europe, there are some sites even in Slovakia where primary forests can be found.
