Survey: Most Slovaks plan to limit personal contacts over Christmas

According to a recent How Are You, Slovakia? survey carried out by MNFORCE, the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) and Seesame, most Slovaks intend to limit their personal contacts over Christmas.

"It's positive news that more than two thirds of the respondents plan to limit their mobility, with more than one third saying they intend to have themselves tested before visiting relatives," stated Barbara Lášticová of SAV's Social Communications Research Department. Approximately 28 percent of the respondents stated that they will spend Christmas only with their closest relatives at home, while 39.7 percent claimed that they want to visit only immediate relatives.

Meanwhile, 14 percent stated that they don't intend to limit themselves at all in terms of visiting relatives. These tend to be young respondents who don't feel threatened by coronavirus. The same applies to those who don't trust scientific institutions in the country, as well as those who are unhappy with the Government's steps aimed at containing the pandemic. Conversely, those who claimed that they want to spend the holiday at home were most often older respondents.

Approximately 37 percent of respondents inclined towards the opinion that Christmas will make the situation surrounding the pandemic even worse, while 33.4 percent expressed their belief that this won't be the case. The survey was carried out on a sample of 1,000 people between December 10th and 14th.
