More students can go back to school

Nursery schools and the first level (first four grades) of primary schools reopened for children of all parents as of Monday. They had only been open to children of parents working in critical infrastructure. Meanwhile, special schools, secondary medical schools and the final grades of secondary school will remain open. Pupils who do not have access to remote education can also attend school in small groups of five pupils and one teacher.

Moreover, as of April 19, students of the final two years of elementary schools - the eight and nine graders will return to the classrooms if they are not marked as so called black districts according to their epidemiological situation. The condition that at least one parent of these pupils should have been recently tested for coronavirus remains in effect. "If the situation continues to be positive, more grades will follow," said Education Minister Branislav Groehling (SaS) on Monday. The so-called school traffic lights will be launched automatically. These state that if a coronavirus-positive case appears in a class or at a school, it can be closed by the regional public health authority or the headteacher.

Individual education at primary art schools for children of the first level of primary school is also available. School clubs, school canteens and dormitories for special schools and for secondary medical schools remain open as well. Further information on the opening of schools will be announced by the education minister at a news conference due to be held later on Monday.
