Dutch experts discussed the options for protecting journalists in Slovakia, presenting measures used in the Netherlands. Peter ter Velde has worked in the media for more than 25 years. Now he is the project coordinator of the PersVeilig or Press safety platform. Journalists can contact the project at any time with concerns about their safety. Team leader and coordinator of the Dutch police force’s mechanism for protecting journalists, Wim Hoonhout pointed to the importance of cooperation between employers, employees, the police and the prosecution service. In order to improve the protection of journalists in Slovakia, the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic has organised workshops with Dutch experts in cooperation with the Dutch Embassy. Discussions were held with representatives from several sectors, specifically with members of the police, the Ministry of the Interior and in various media editorial offices.
