Radio Slovakia International’s special program is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the first independent Slovak Republic. On 1st January 1993, the independent Slovak Republic was established. Preceding the act was the private debate between Prime Ministers of two federal republics, Vaclav Klaus on the Czech and Vladimir Meciar on the Slovak side, in July 1992. Following the meeting, the Slovak government declared independence of Slovakia. On 1st September, the Slovak constitution was passed by the Slovak National Council i.e. Slovak Parliament. The dissolution of Czechoslovakia took place on 31st December 1992.
In the RSI 2023 New Year's special, President Zuzana Caputova names Slovak people the wealth of the country, sociologist Miloslav Bahna from the Slovak Academy of Sciences presents an interpretation on the split of Czechoslovakia into two independent states and poet and translator James Sutherland Smith adds the perspective of a foreigner living in Slovakia for over 30 years.
