In 2023, the theme of the World Radio Day (WRD) is "Radio and Peace". UNESCO has issued its statement on this occasion naming independent radio "a pillar for conflict prevention and peacebuilding". Slovakia is neighbouring Ukraine, a country in a war conflict. Only recently, Slovak Parliament passed an amendment scrapping license fees as part of funding public media Radio and Television Slovakia, RTVS, leaving it being fully financed from the state budget. The new law should come in power as of July. Slovakia is heading to early elections in September. Independent public media mean, according to UNESCO, peace. How to keep independence and thus peace by public media being financed from the state budget by law ?
