Head of Reporters Without Borders on media freedom in Slovakia

Slovakia scored 83 out of 100 points for press freedom. The Organisation Reporters Without Borders uses a new method based on five main criteria political environment, legal framework, economic conditions, social and cultural context, and security. Slovakia achieved the best result in the social and cultural context, ranking 17th out of 180 countries. Our colleague Soňa Otajovičová from Rádio Slovensko spoke with the head of Reporters Without Borders, Christophe Deloire, as part of Radio Slovensko's discussion programme - K veci.

In the interview you will find out:

  • How does the social situation affect media freedom?

  • What has changed in Slovakia since the verdict in the murder case of journalist Ján Kuciak?

  • How has the new methodology of the Press Freedom Index affected the results in individual countries?

  • In terms of media freedom, where does Slovakia stand and how does propaganda threaten the safety of journalists?
