On the 11th of March 2024, we actually commemorate 100 years since Cardinal Jozef Tomko was born in the village of Udavské, eastern Slovakia. He lived most of his life in Italy, where Tomko studied and after his studies, as it was complicated to get back home to former Czechoslovakia for political reasons. He closely cooperated with Pope John Paul II. In fact, Tomko was the first Slovak to be a head of one of Rome´s congregations. He became the oldest living member of the College of Cardinals after the death of French Cardinal Albert Vanhoye in July 2021.
