The European Day of Languages event takes place on Thursday on the campus of the Faculty of Arts of the Paul Jozef Šafárik University (UPJŠ) in Košice. Primary school pupils and secondary school students from eastern Slovakia have the opportunity to get to know European languages through various fun activities. There will also be an educational game or a quiz about the European Union, informed Marián Gladiš on behalf of the Faculty of Arts of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University.
The faculty will also host a panel discussion on the theme Voices of Europe: multilingualism in digital times. The use of languages in the European institutions, the work of interpreters and translators in the EU, as well as the use of artificial intelligence in translation will be discussed by translator Barbora Tricoire, interpreter Roman Gajdoš and Slovakist Peter Getlík.
The European Day of Languages is designated on 26 September and has been celebrated on the initiative of the Council of Europe since 2001. The aim is to promote linguistic diversity and language learning in Europe. In Košice, the Day of Languages is usually celebrated two weeks in advance.
