What emerges from a meeting between a professor of ethnology from Bratislava and an associate professor, ethnologist/folklorist from Budapest? A Slovak-Hungarian book exploring the lives of women in socialist Czechoslovakia and socialist Hungary. The combined bilingual perspective of Marta Botiková and Zita Deáky has recently been translated into English, offering a sociological study of women in Central Europe from 1955 to 1989 for English-speaking readers providing evidence of the work and festive practices of ordinary women under the socialist regime.
