Why to do speedcubing?

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, interest in the Rubik's Cube has surged, largely driven by the rise of speedcubing. While Viktor Orbán's visits to Moscow and Beijing have sparked outrage among commissioners and MEPs, the Rubik's Cube—chosen as the symbol of Hungary's six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2024—continues to entertain many of them. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the iconic puzzle, originally designed as a teaching tool for architects, has earned its place as the world's best-selling toy over the past five decades.

At the end of the presidency of the Council of the EU, the Hungarian Open, a 3 day international speedcubing event, was held in the capital Budapest, attracting not only Slovaks and Slovenians, but also many others.
