Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan made history at the 2017 Road Cycling World Championships in Bergen, Norway, when he become the first cyclist to win three straight rainbow jerseys. Sagan now joins Alfredo Binda, Eddy Merckx, Rik Van Steenbergen and Óscar Freire as the only riders with three gold medals in the premier event. However, there are also two other Slovak cyclists that have three World titles, even if from different events - Anton Tkáč and Peter Velits. They have also congratulated their compatriot to his outstanding victory.
