There are around 110 players of foreign nationality in the highest Slovak football league - Fortunaliga. This number does not represent the exact half of all the players, but it comes very close to it. Nonetheless, only one of these players comes from England. James Weir, graduate of Manchester United academy has played since early 2020 for the football club Pohronie, based in the central Slovak town of Žiar nad Hronom. Recently, the Commonwealth-group of players in Pohronie was enlarged also thanks to young Canadian footballer, Ryan Lindsay.
