Alpine skier Petra Vlhová won the sports journalists poll Athlete of the Year 2020 for the second time. She received the highest award during a special television program prepared by the public broadcaster RTVS and the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee. This spring, Vlhová won small globes in the World Cup for her triumphs in slalom and parallel disciplines. Cyclist Peter Sagan and ice hockey player Erik Černák were the runners up. Sprinter Ján Volko and race walker Matej Tóth conclude the top five. In team sports, the highest recognition went to the Slovak football team, which qualified for the EURO 2020 tournament. Former hockey player Igor Liba received this year's Sports Legend award.
