Slovakia at the World Ice Hockey Championships

Slovakia has played three games in the world ice hockey championship. After three games they have four points. The Slovak players did not have a good start to the World Championships as they lost to the Czech Republic 2:3 in the first game. All five goals were scored in the first period. However, Slovakia beat Latvia 2-1 in their second game at the World Hockey Championship. Matúš Sukeľ and Marek Hrivík scored for Slovakia.  After the most recent game against Canada, Slovak hockey coach Craig Ramsay praised the team's spirit. In an emotional post-match interview, he criticised the referees, "I couldn't communicate with them. They were careful to avoid our bench," he said. The Slovak hockey team lost 2-1 to Canada after overtime and a shootout. The match in Riga was decided in the eighth round of the shootout by Jack Quinn.
