Slovak hockey players won the seventh game in the B-group of ICE HOCKEY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. They won against Norway 4:1. They caught up with Latvia, but to reach the quarter-finals they need the home team not to score in the final group game against the already certain winner of the B group, Switzerland. The Slovaks moved into fourth place in the table ahead of the Latvians thanks to a close 2-1 win. Both teams had 11 points before tonight's game.
Craig Ramsay's team also beat Slovenia 1-0 in the regular group, lost to the Czech Republic 2-3, Switzerland 2-4 and took a point each against Kazakhstan and Canada. Ramsay's men decided their triumph over the Norwegians in the opening act, they had a great start to it and already in the eighth minute led 2:0 thanks to goals by captain Marek Hrivik and Peter Cehlarik. At the end of the period Robert Lantosi showed his speed and scored the third goal. The Norwegians reduced the deficit in the middle part, but Slovakia kept the necessary three points and kept its hope for the quarter-finals. The score was closed by Richard Panik into an empty net.
