Slovak canoeist Matej Beňuš returned from the Olympic Games in Paris satisfied with his goal and richer with a bronze medal and experience with a new Olympic discipline. After arriving in Slovakia, he admitted that at the age of 36 he still has the desire to compete under the five rings and is thinking about the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
Beňuš won the bronze medal in the C1 in Paris, finishing third in the final with a 5.67 second loss to Nicolas Gestin. It was the first medal for Slovakia at the 2024 Olympic Games. He also has an Olympic silver from Rio 2016 in the same discipline. "I'm really enjoying it and I'm very happy that I managed to achieve the goal I went to Paris with," he said after arriving in Slovakia.
