Slovan Bratislava to play in Champions League

After Thursday’s draw in Monaco it was announced that in the main phase of the 2024/2025 Champions League, Slovan Bratislava will face Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Dinamo Zagreb, Celtic Glasgow, VfB Stuttgart and FC Girona.

The "Belasi” as they are known to locals will play their first match on September 17, 18 or 19. The Champions League will be played in a new format this year.

Slovan will meet Manchester City, AC Milan, Dinamo Zagreb, VfB Stuttgart at home, and Bayern, Atletico Madrid, Celtic Glasgow and Girona are waiting for them away. Coach Vladimír Weiss’s team earned their place in the most prestigious European competition by defeating North Macedonian team FK Struga, Slovenian NK Celje, Cypriot APOELabd finally Danish  FC Midtjylland. 

Slovan became the fourth club from Slovakia in the modern history of the competition with a place on the main stage. MŠK Žilina last played in it in the 2010/2011 season. Before that, FC Košice and Artmedia Petržalka also took part in the competition.
