Slovan loses to Manchester City in Champions League Match

Slovan Bratislava footballers lost their second match of the main phase of the Champions League 2024/25. They lost to Manchester City 0:4 at home on Tuesday night in front of 22,500 fans. This follows last week’s 1:5 defeat in Glasgow at the hands of Celtic. The English champion confirmed their role of the favorite at the National Football Stadium, Tehelne Pole and dominated the match.  Ilkay Gündogan opened the scoring in the 8th minute, Phil Foden added the second goal seven minutes later. After the break, the elite finisher Erling Haaland also made his mark and substitute James McAtee closed the score.  The "Belasí" will next appear in the prestigious competition on October 22 on the ground of Spanish Girona, after which they will play at home twice, hosting Dinamo Zagreb on November 5, and AC Milan on the 26th.

Pep Guardiola, coach of Manchester City had this to say about the match: "I'm very happy. I'm also satisfied with the transition we had in attack. We played very well in the first half, especially in the first 15-20 minutes. We had a lot of chances and could have added more goals . The atmosphere was fantastic, the audience kept singing. I'm happy that we could play here and I'll be happy to come back to Bratislava or Slovakia again."
