Athletes aim for a medal at the upcoming World Championships

On Sunday a delegation of 16 athletes took off to Beijing to the take part to the Athletics World Championships that starts this week. This is the second largest delegation in Slovakia's history to take part to such an event. As for their ambitions: at least a medal, a few finals and a top 12 ranking.

"I must say that our expectations are greater than ever before. It's the first time we go to the World Championships with the idea that we have big chances to win at least a medal. Our biggest candidate to a medal is Matej Tóth in the walk races. The hammer thrower Martina Hrašnová had some low form, but I believe she will make it to the final as well as her fellow hammer thrower Marcel Lomnicky. The Veldáková twins give us hopes too and of course I am looking forward to any pleasant surprises,"said the head of the Slovak delegation Martin Pupiš.
