This year's edition of the Athletics World Championships will remain in the history of this sport in Slovakia. The largest delegation ever comes home with the first gold medal. Matej Toth won the men's 50km walk race adding this most precious medal to a collection that - so far - had three bronze medals from hurdle runner Igor Kovač and hammer throwers Libor Charfreitag and Martina Hrašnová.
"If until now only athletic experts have expected good results from me, now the whole country will do it. I have to say that this 50km was maybe the easiest race of my whole life. I made history today. I was thinking about my two little daughters at home and my wife all the time. I want to keep this feeling and the memories of entering this beautiful stadium forever. I just hope I will enjoy such a special moment at least once more in my life. I am looking forward to the Olympics," said Toth after the race. His performance and hammer thrower's Marcel Lomnicky's eight place brought 9 points to the Slovak delegation, a very good result overall.
