Slovakia's women's basketball team is getting ready for their first qualifying match for the 2017 European Championships. On Saturday they play against Portugal on home court in Poprad. Then they will meet Iceland and Hungary. Coach Maroš Kováčikadmits he has a difficult mission.
"I do not have a lot of information about our opponents. I know something about the Hungarian team with whom we have already met at the previous edition of the European championships. They are led by Slovak coach Štefan Svitek. It will be important how their team will look like. We will find out in February when we play against them. I hope that we will get good results from the matches against Portugal and Iceland, " concludes Kováčik.
Slovakia has to finish either on top of the qualifying group or to be among the six best runner -ups in order to make it to the final tournament which is hosted by the neighbouring Czech Republic.
