Excellent season for alpine skiers

What a Friday evening it was for Slovakia's alpine skiers! For the first time in history two Slovaks stepped on the same podium of a World Cup race. Veronika Velez-Zuzulova won the slalom race in Flachau, for a second time this season and her fellow countrywoman Petra Vlhova came third.

"It's a dream week. We have been making history since the beginning of the season, it's not just today, so for sure it's amazing. For the first victory on Tuesday, I had to wait a long time. For the second one, only two days. But now I am happy that there is a short break because this is the kind of stuff I am not living every day. It cost me a lot of energy. A lot of emotions. So, it will be nice that I can go home a little bit and take in new energy for the next race," said Velez-Zuzulova smiling. The clear newcomer of the season, the 20 year old Petra Vlhova who won her first ever World Cup race in Are in December was very pleased to step again on the podium after finishing the 1st leg on the fifth position.

"Slovakia is a small country but has two girls on the podium. That's amazing. I think that our parents are the first to be thanked for these results because they have always supported us," added Vlhova.

Equally amazing is the fact that Slovakia has two skiers in the top 5 in the overall classification of the season in this discipline with Velez-Zuzulova second and Vlhova fourth ahead of the next race in Maribor at the end of the month.
