Bratislava shooting re-designated as terrorist attack

The murder in front of the Tepláreň café was reclassified by investigators as an act of terrorism. The attacker will not be convicted for it anymore because he shot himself a few hours after his act. Paradoxically, however, this could weigh heavily on his parents, who did not inform the police even though they already knew about the act on Wednesday evening. TASR press agency was told by the spokesperson for the Prosecutor-General's Office, Jana Tokolyova on Monday. "Following consultations with the Special Prosecutor, the investigators of the National Criminal Agency (NAKA) re-designated the shooting on Zamocka Street in Bratislava as an aggravated crime of a terrorist attack," added Tokolyova. In this context, the Special Prosecutor's Office pointed out that public approval of a terrorist attack constitutes participation in terrorism and is punishable by three to ten years in jail. "According to Special Prosecutor Daniel Lipsic, the law enforcement bodies will take resolute action in uncovering and prosecution of perpetrators who approve terrorism," said Tokolyova. The police informed the public that during its monitoring of social networks it had detected various posts that attempt to interpret motives of the double murder at Zamocka Street. "The authors of such posts attempt to take advantage of the fact that the police cannot fight such disinformation at the moment. The case is still in the phase of active investigation, the investigators comply with the Penal Code and it's not possible to hasten the proceedings or pro-actively make comments in the media just because someone is spreading lies," the police reported in its social network post. The condition of Radka - the woman who was injured during the shooting in Bratislava city centre last week has improved, Bratislava University Hospital spokeswoman Eva Kliska told TASR press agency. Radka, after sustaining multiple gunshot injuries in the attack, underwent surgery, and her condition has been improving with each passing day. She'll remain in hospital for the time being, however.
